Southend Food Bank Show ft Sam Duckworth, Suspects, Joe Garner & International Cant Collective

Unbelievably we’re living in a world where people can’t always purchase the food they need to live. So incredibly some people need to rely on food banks. Which is beyond fucked in a modern age.
So tonight there is an amazing show at The Railway Hotel, Southend. Featuring Sam Duckworth, Suspects, Joe Garner & International Cant Collective. Entry is 3 or more items of tinned or packaged food.

We spoke to Dean Ward the organiser of the event.

Amazing cause, tell us a bit about the cause…
“This is the 2nd benefit gig for Trussell’s Southend Foodbank. At the last event the people of Southend donated 273kg off food which provide 652 meals for people suffering from food poverty within the community.”

It’s pretty unbelievable…
“13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK. Reasons for people needing to use a foodbank usually range from unexpected bills, bedroom tax, benefit delays, redundancy or low income. There has been a significant rise since the 2008 worldwide recession however in 2010 there was roughly 20 foodbanks across the UK. That has since risen to around 1,000 due to Tory austerity.”

Who?
“For this next event we aim to get more food donated than the previous gig, so we have an amazing line up of established and upcoming local talent. Headlining is Sam Duckworth AKA Recreations, fresh off of his UK mini tour and in support of his brand new album “Kingdoms” released through Xtra Mile Recordings. He will be supported by Suspects, Joe Garner and International Cant Collective.”

Where?
“The gig is at The Railway Hotel, Clifftown Road, Southend. Doors 7:30pm and entry fee is 3 or more items of tinned or packaged food which will all be donated to the foodbank in Southchurch Road.”
